WACO, TX (November 6, 2024)--With more than 16 years of experience as a school administrator, Dr. Qunisha Johnson will serve as the next leader of University High School. Johnson currently serves as the assistant principal of the campus that serves more than 1,800 students.

Prior to joining the staff of the University Trojans, Johnson was the associate principal of J. H. Hines Elementary following her role as assistant principal at Midway Middle School. She also worked 12 years as a school counselor, is certified as an AVID administrator and has her Superintendent certification.

Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer said Johnson's current experience on the campus is beneficial to both students and staff.

“Dr. Johnson has 17 years of public school education experience, working in multiple school districts,” Spicer said. “As an experienced school counselor and campus administrator, Dr. Johnson is committed to meeting the unique needs of all UHS students, will continue to build upon the strong campus culture, and will advance the academic and extracurricular successes of the campus.”

As UHS’ assistant principal, Johnson focused on working with counselors to establish systemic processes for accountability and worked on safety and security measures for the campus. She improved student attendance and worked with teachers and instructional coaches to enhance the rigor of academic instruction for students.

“My goal is to do more than oversee support and improvement,” Johnson said. “I will work to raise the rate of positive outcomes for students, create a reputation and demand for excellence in educating the whole child, and incorporate the entire community in our success.”

Johnson is a graduate of Tarleton State University with her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership. She graduated from Texas State University with her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling and the University of Texas with her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.

Johnson officially begins her new role as University High School principal on Monday, November 11. Johnson replaces Alonzo McAdoo who accepted the role of Waco ISD Executive Director of Secondary Education.
